Relocation of Industries

  • In 1996, in a Public Interest Litigation (M.C. Mehta Vs Union of India & ors). Hon'ble Supreme Court of India directed to close down the industrial units functioning in non-conforming/residential areas in Delhi. Keeping in view, large scale of unemployment of workers, other related problems in the event of closure and on humanitarian grounds, the court agreed to the proposal of Govt. of Delhi for Relocation of Industries from residential/non-conforming zones to conforming zones by developing new industrial areas and flatted factories complex.

Accordingly, Delhi Govt. through the Office of Commissioner of Industries invited applications for allotment of industrial plots/flatted factories in the year 1996 under the Relocation Scheme. These applications were scrutinized by the said office and transferred to DSIIDC subsequently in the year 1998 for implementing the scheme as implementing agency on behalf of the Govt.
